Meet the Staff

Steve Bowden, President
Steve began his work with seniors in 2000 when he opened an assisted living facility in Auburn, California. After running the facility successfully for 4 years, he decided to start an in-home care company because he realized that the majority of seniors prefer to stay in their own homes when given the option. In March 2004, Steve started Heritage Senior Services. In October 2005, he purchased Help at Home Senior Care and merged the two companies. “My inspiration to help seniors comes from my belief that every person has an inherent dignity and worth that does not diminish with disability or age. I am grateful to be a part of an exceptional team that works together to provide such a valuable service.” In his spare time, Steve enjoys mountain biking, exploring the American River Canyon and traveling.

Veronica Gonzales, Client Services Director
Veronica always wanted a career where she could truly make a difference, and she does this now by managing our client services department. She spends much of her time in the field telling people about the services Help at Home offers. Veronica enjoys meeting seniors and their families and knowing our services make it possible for seniors to stay safe in their own homes. “When my own grandmother had Alzheimer’s disease for eight years, I became knowledgeable about the disease and was personally involved as a family caregiver.” Veronica has been married for 14 years and has two children and a pet chihuahua. Between she and her husband, they have a total of 120 first cousins which keeps Veronica busy with weddings and birthdays. She loves to entertain and host holiday parties and family reunions.

Bridgett Hodkin, Client Services Specialist
Bridgett joined the Help at Home team after working as a Community Relations Coordinator for a local skilled nursing facility. Bridgett finds great satisfaction in working with seniors and being able to help them through difficult circumstances. Her knowledge of senior care and her outstanding strengths in relationship building ensure our clients receive the best of care. When Bridgett is not at work, she and her husband keep a fun and lively household running. She has four children and she stays busy with sports, homework and pets.

Nichole Bowden, Operations Director
Nichole is a licensed clinical social worker with over 10 years experience in social services and counseling. In addition to her social work experience, she has also worked as a caregiver. Nichole was mentored and encouraged by her grandmother to give back to seniors. Nichole focuses on enhancing client services and employee relations and ensuring that Help at Home’s unique quality of service is not compromised as we continue to grow. “I enjoy using my training and experience as a social worker to ensure that our clients receive the highest quality care.” After work, you can find Nichole reading, playing tennis, running, biking or playing with her kids.

Rena Robinson, Staffing Coordinator
Rena has worked for Help at Home since the company first started in March 2004. She became interested in caregiving because of her close relationships with her grandparents, aunts, and uncles. She started as a caregiver, and loved going to see our clients and making a difference in their lives. As our staffing coordinator, Rena enjoys working with all the clients and caregivers. She has an impressive track record of successful matches between caregivers and clients. “I really enjoy the challenge of matching our clients to just the right caregiver.” When Rena is not at work, her life revolves around her family.

Glenda Skeens, Field Supervisor
Glenda comes to Help at Home with more than 10 years experience in communications, marketing and advertising.  With 8 years experience in all levels and aspects of senior care, Glenda feels personally rewarded working in this field more than any other. She also does field visits, caregiver screening and hiring, and caregiver orientation and training. “The group of professionals that I have the privilege to work with at Help at Home exhibit a passion that is unsurpassed in the senior care industry.”

Gail Gavel, Administrative Assistant
Gail brings years of experience as an administrative assistant to our team. She wears many hats at Help at Home and is usually the first person to answer the phone. Gail has a special love for the elderly. Throughout the years she has volunteered to provide companionship and care for several friends, neighbors and relatives. She has a deep understanding of the issues that many elderly people and their family members face. One of her favorite pastimes is visiting with seniors and listening to their stories. Gail also enjoys gardening, hiking, and spending her free time with her husband, children and grandchildren.

Laura Trott, Accountant

She was recently married, and she lives with her husband, John, and seven year old stepson, Jonathan.  When she’s not studying or working, Laura loves spending her time at the lake, the gym, the theatre, dancing or traveling.

  Helen Singh, Office Manager

She also assists with operations, shopping and training at Alder Grove Senior Living, our residential facility for the elderly in Auburn. Before joining the Help at Home team in February 2007, Helen worked for a manufacturing company as a trainer, coordinator and document controller/writer in Lincoln for seven years. Helen appreciates her part-time, flexible work schedule which allows her to be home with her two small children when they are not in school.
